Description ISLANDS off ATTICA. Aegina. Circa 456/45-431 BC.  Silver Stater. Land tortoise with segmented shell / Large incuse square of a heavy skew pattern. Aegina was a vital trading state in the Greek World. However, Athens eclipsed it after the Persian Wars and was captured by the Athenians in 456 B.C. Soon after, the inhabitants were expelled from the island. Aegina was the first Greek state to create coinage. Diameter: 24 mm Silver-plated, made in the USA Packaged in a coin collecting flip with the description of the coin printed on the flip insert.
