Description 1860 Parsons & Co. $20 Gold Bar Replica In the early summer of 1859, gold deposits were discovered in the South Park section of Park County, Colorado (six miles northwest of present-day Como and 150 miles southeast of Denver). Dr. John Parson arrived in Colorado in 1858. He possessed a background in metallurgy and manufacturing. After his arrival in Hamilton, he ordered dies and coining equipment. It is believed that the dies were not ready until late June 1861 so he first issued $20 gold ingots dated 1860. The original is rare with only one or two known to exist.
